2020 Subsistence Fishing Notice 1 Issued 6/05/2020

The following notice applies to the waters within the boundaries of Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge from the mouth of the Kuskokwim River to the Refuge boundary at Aniak.

TIME:

• June 6-7, 2020. 11:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. (SET NET ONLY, DRIFT GILLNETS ARE PROHIBITED)

• June 9-10, 2020. 11:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. (SET NET ONLY, DRIFT GILLNETS ARE PROHIBITED)

• June 12, 2020. 06:00 A.M. to 06:00 P.M. (SET AND DRIFT NET)

• June 15, 2020. 06:00 A.M. to 06:00 P.M. (SET AND DRIFT NET)

• June 18, 2020. 06:00 A.M. to 06:00P.M. (SET and DRIFT NET)

GEAR: SET NET RESTRICTIONS:

• 6 inch or less set gillnets for federally qualified users,

• Must be attached to bank and oriented perpendicular to river,

• May not exceed 60 feet in length and may not exceed 45 mesh deep, may not be operated more than 100 feet from ordinary high water mark,

• Buoys need to be marked with first initial, last name and phone number of fishermen.

GILLNET RESTRICTIONS:

• 6 inch or less gillnets for federally qualified users,

• Net length 150 feet (25 Fathoms), may not exceed 45 mesh deep above Johnson River,

• Net length 300 feet (50 Fathoms), may not exceed 45 mesh deep below Johnson River. AREA: (See Attached Maps)

• Chinook Salmon retention using dip nets, beach seines, fish wheels, and rod and reel on Federal public waters of the main stem of the Kuskokwim River and non-salmon tributaries is allowed.

ADDITIONAL CLOSURES:

• All salmon bearing tributaries within the refuge boundaries are closed effective June 1, 2020,

• The Aniak Box described as waters of the Kuskokwim River main stem from the Yukon Delta NWR boundary at Aniak downstream to a line formed from the northwest corner of the runway (latitude 61° 35’ 16” N, longitude 159° 33’ 28” W), due north to a point on the southeast corner of the sandbar (latitude 61° 35’ 37” N, longitude 159° 33’ 16” W) will remain closed.

This May 5-6, 2020 meeting was teleconferenced, and quorum was established. The next KRSMWG meeting is currently scheduled for Monday June 8, 2020- 6:00- 8:00 PM.

The former House District 38 Representative feels that keeping a positive outlook is especially important when facing potential challenges in the times ahead.
