Takotna River Weir Update

One of the salmon monitoring projects our Fish Commission coordinates is the Takotna River weir. It provides nearly 20 years of data about headwaters salmon spawning on the Kuskokwim.

As of July 4, 2021, after days of work by crew members, the Takotna River weir has been watertight and ready for the season. So far, the crew hasn't counted any fish passage.

A big thank you to our 2021 crew members for working through high water conditions to get this weir ready! Thanks also to Kevin Whitworth for coordinating with the crew, and our project partners at the Takotna Tribal Council, Nikolai Edzeno’ Tribal Council, Bering Sea Fishermen's Association, and Alaska Department of Fish & Game.
